Yep, Chewy sent us another bag of Nulo Freestyle treats. This time, in the Grain-Free Beef Recipe with Coconut!

Nulo Freestyle Grain-Free Duck Recipe with Plum Jerky Dog Treats

Hey.

I’ve been curious about the Nulo brand since I first heard about it on social media a few years ago. Some of the athletes I followed at the time posted about it, but I’m pretty sure when they first launched, Nulo only had a line of dry kibble. Teton had been through a range of foods so I wasn’t interested, but now that they have a line of treats, well, say no more!

Chewy.com sent us a bag of Nulo’s Freestyle Grain-Free Duck Recipe with Plum Jerky treats earlier this month. These treats are made in the USA and slow-cooked in a smokehouse so your dog’s sniffer will go a mile a minute when you tear open the bag.

Nulo Duck Jerky

Speaking of tearing open the bag, one mind-blowing feature that Nulo has going for them is the use of a Velcro-like material to seal their bags. With this feature, you won’t run the risk of not zipping it tight and causing the treats to get stale. Plus, it’s fun to open and close! (I’m easily amused, apparently.)

The Freestyle Grain-Free Duck Recipe with Plum Jerky treat variety is made with a limited ingredient list that I love. Here are the three main ingredients:

Duck
Sweet potatoes
Plums

And one of the coolest ingredients of all is Nulo’s patented BC30 probiotic, Dried Bacillus coagulans Fermentation Product. You got all that, right? 😉

Essentially, this BC30 probiotic is is a strain the supports your dog’s gut.

The older Teton gets, the more I notice he prefers soft treats and/or treats that are only slightly crunchy. The Nulo Freestyle treat line (spoiler alert – they have other varieties!) is great because they’re soft and easily torn into the appropriate size for your dog.

King Kong

The Kong Classic Dog Toy is one that we bought Teton when we first adopted him. Needless to say, that one is pretty worn out so when Chewy.com asked if they could send us a new one, we enthusiastically said YES!

One thing Teton had never tried, though, was the Kong Stuff’N Sweet Potato Spread.

Here’s the deal. I don’t love the ingredient list for this stuff, but as an every-once-in-a-while treat it’s not the worst thing out there.

The Kong Stuff’N Sweet Potato Spread is in a toothpaste-like tube and must be refrigerated after opening.

It’s a little tricky to get perfectly inside the Kong, itself, but maybe that’s because I’m a weird perfectionist with things like that and tried to swirl it around the edges like ice cream.

Eh. Good enough.

Unfortunately, eh is what Teton expressed when I gave him the Kong.

He didn’t even lick the inside. Not once.

So, ok. That’s fine. We know Teton is picky. For him, the Kong Stuff’N Sweet Potato Spread isn’t a great choice. Maybe we should have tried the peanut butter variety.

One for two isn’t bad. We looooove our Kong Classic Dog Toy. Here are some of the different ways we use it:

Spread peanut butter inside
Spread very light peanut butter inside and fill with dry kibble (as a meal); the peanut butter should be just enough so that the kibble sticks to the sides
Put a small piece of bread in the top to “seal” it and fill with peanut butter, small treats, etc.
Do any of the above and freeze it so it’s extra tough for your dog to get the treat(s) out

Tylee’s Pork Jerky

Over the last few weeks, Teton has been enjoying a new treat that has quickly become a favorite.

Chewy.com sent over a bag of Tylee’s Human-Grade Pork Jerky and trust me when I say that Teton’s ears perk up when I grab the bag.

Tylee has three types of human-grade jerky and each variety is made with just one ingredient – pork, chicken, or turkey.

Tylee’s jerky treats come in 8-ounce bags which are pretty hefty. We’re not even 1/3 of the way through the bag and Teton gets a chunk of jerky at least once a day.

Tylee’s jerky comes in a variety of sizes but you can also pretty easily rip larger pieces into smaller ones if you have a little bitty dog or one whose weight you’re watching.

Some people balk a bit at the price tag on good quality jerky, but Tylee’s will run you under $13 a bag on Chewy.com and for the size of these bags and quality of the jerky, itself, that is very reasonable.

Once this bag runs out, we’ll likely be buying more from our buddies at Chewy.

Starmark Bob-A-Lot

If you haven’t gotten an interactive toy for your dog yet, well then, I feel sorry for your dog. Interactive toys, whether they involve treats or not, are a fantastic way to provide mental and physical stimulation to your dog. They keep things interesting, which is something we can all appreciate.

Last month, Teton got a new interactive treat toy from Chewy.com. We’ve tried a handful and I think this is probably the most well-made and one of the best executions we’ve seen.

Dog Moms and Dog Dads, I present to you, the Starmark Treat Dispensing Bob-a-Lot.

The Bob-a-Lot comes in either small or large. Small is recommended for dogs that are 20 lbs and less, while large is best for dogs over 20 lbs and can hold as much as three cups. Woof.

Teton can be a finicky eater when it comes to his breakfast and dinner, so I prefer to fill interactive toys with treats so he’s more motivated to play with them, but if you have a dog who inhales their dinner or is generally super excited to eat, you could definitely put their normal kibble into the Bob-a-Lot and make them work for it!

The Bob-a-Lot lid screws on and off and the top of the toy is where you dump in the treats.

Teton’s latest favorite treat I purchased at a boujie pet store in Seattle, but as luck would have it, Chewy.com carries them!

These are Sojos Good Dog treats in the Blueberry Cobbler flavor. They are tiny little crunchy bones that are easily broken, which is what I did before putting a few into the Bob-a-Lot. They’re small enough that you wouldn’t need to break them, but I like to because, well, it makes Teton work harder and longer.

While you’re loading the Bob-a-Lot, you might get a creeper.

Once it’s locked and loaded and the top is screwed back on, you can adjust the hole that the treats come out of.

Obviously, the more narrow the hole the harder it will be for your dog to get the treats out. I made it just slightly more narrow for Teton the first time he tried it, and I think that was a good difficulty level for him.

A few things to note.

I think Teton could have used the small size Bob-a-Lot, but the large is perfectly fine, too.

This sucker is on sale for under $20 (large) or under $14 (small) on Chewy.com right now and it’s worth it. Take mine (and Teton’s) word.

Zuke’s Lil’ Links & Why I Love Chewy.com

Happy Sunday!

Anyone else genuinely like Mondays? Don’t get me wrong; I always get a little sad on Sunday evening thinking about the weekend being over, but I’ve gotten myself to a place where I actually like the clean slate of a Monday. It’s oddly motivating and refreshing.

Teton and I had a really great walk this morning on the boardwalk. ♥

First off in this blog post, I have to tell you why I have a new love for Chewy.com.

While I am an ambassador and do receive treats for Teton in exchange for reviews, the reason I have a new love for them is completely separate from that. Not only am I an ambassador, but I am also a regular Chewy.com customer. So, when I recently purchased a dog ramp for Teton to get in and out of my car and it didn’t quite work for us, I called Chewy to initiate a return.

The ramp I purchased was this one and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It just didn’t end up working for us.

Much to my surprise, the customer service representative that took my call told me to take the ramp to a local animal shelter and donate it and that Chewy would refund my money. You heard that right. Chewy had me donate this brand new $70 ramp to my local animal shelter and still refunded my money.

I was floored. Yes, I cried a little. Happy tears! I asked whether they needed some type of proof of donation and was told no and that Chewy just wants to see their products used toward a good cause in these types of instances and that they are happy to do it. My local animal shelter was thrilled to have the ramp.

One more reason to love Chewy.com!

This month, Teton has been enjoying a treat from Zuke’s – their Lil’ Links Pork and Apple Recipe.

These treats come in a handful of flavors and are less that $6 a bag, which lasts a while if you alternate between treats like we do.

Lil’ Links are grain-free and made in the U.S. They boast a limited ingredient list including pork, apples, carrots, and potatoes.

I’ve noticed recently that Teton is much more picky about his treats. Specifically, he has to really love something to take it if it’s a crunchy, hard-to-chew treat. Lil’ Links are nice because they’re super soft and easy to chew.

Since they’re so soft, they are easily broken if you have a smaller dog, multiple dogs, or one that’s watching his/her weight. 😉

Teton prefers them unbroken.

Himalayan Dog Chew’s Yaky Churros

Hard to believe that March is right around the corner, amiright?

I also can’t believe (and am in denial) that Teton, The Little Blogger himself, will be 10 years old in November.

Let’s not talk about that.

Instead, we’ll talk about an awesome new treat that Chewy.com sent us to try.

These are the Himalayan Dog Chew Yaky Churros and they are fan-freaking-tastic.

Himalayan Dog Chews are one of our favorite chews of all time, but I like the Yaky Churros because they are significantly softer and seem a bit easier for Teton to gnaw on.

They’re made of just a handful of ingredients and come in bags of 4.

We opted for the vegetable variety because micronutrients are our friend, but they also come in cheese and fish flavors.

Each Yaky Churro is roughly 5-inches long and lasts Teton 5 – 7 minutes. This isn’t that long in terms of a chew, but I know he gets a good teeth cleaning when he eats these because of the way in which he has to break it apart to chew and digest it.

I really like the Himalayan Dog Chew Yaky Churro for a fun, quick and easy treat for Teton.

Wellness CORE Simply Shreds

Hello, again!

We rang in 2018 at an amazing little town here in Washington State that is not only beautiful but is also dog-friendly.

Here’s photographic evidence of both of these things.

For the month of January, we had the opportunity to choose from a few treats and food items available at Chewy.com.

Since Teton had tried (and enjoyed) a handful of Wellness products before, I thought we’d give the line of Wellness CORE Simply Shreds a try!

I always read the ingredients before choosing a food item for Teton, and I make note of the country of origin, as well. We try to only give Teton food and treats with limited ingredients that are made in the United States, Canada, or a few others countries (New Zealand, for example) that I’ve done some research on.

In the case of Wellness CORE Simply Shreds, I gave the ingredients a look, decided they were perfectly fine, and then that was that! I did not check the country of origin because it wasn’t loudly advertised like many “Made in the USA” treats and since the Wellness products we’d tried in the past were made in the U.S. I assumed this would be, as well.

I was, and still am (for the most part) pleased when I inspected the chicken, wild salmon & pumpkin variety of the Wellness CORE Simply Shreds that we received.

This box of 12 (!) pouches holds in it a product with limited ingredients – chicken, chicken broth, water, salmon, and pumpkin – to be used as a topper for your dog’s dry food.

(We’ve used a few already!)

Inside each pouch is liquid, chunks of chicken and salmon, and pumpkin. It must smell great because Teton’s little sniffer goes nuts when I open the packet. As a Dog Mom, the odor isn’t so strong that it’s off-putting, which is nice.

There is clearly more chicken than salmon in these (not surprising when you consider cost) but all in all, it’s probably something I, personally, would happily eat in a zombie apocalypse situation.

My one issue with Wellness CORE Simply Shreds is that, while Wellness the company is based in the U.S., this particular product is made in Thailand.

Is this an issue? Maybe. Maybe not. But, it’s my fault for not being more Sherlock Holmes about this particular food item and confirming its country of origin before selecting it. That being said, however, Chewy.com very clearly calls out that this product is made in Thailand on the product page under “Questions & Answers.” I simply want to mention it here to remind you that you can never be too careful when selecting food for your dog! I’m about as nuts as they come and I made a mistake on this one.

I really love the idea of the Wellness CORE Simply Shreds and think that the execution is great. The ingredient list is phenomenal and the easy-to-open packets are great for dogs of any size (you could even split a packet between two dogs!). I’m sure this would be a great food to implement if you have a picky eater or, frankly, if you just want to treat your dog every once in a while.

At under $20 for the box of 12 pouches, the price is very palatable.

Blue Buffalo Santa Snacks

Happy Holidays!

Last week this nerd made my dreams come true by letting me smother him while he sat on my lap for a good 20 minutes. ♥ It’s the little things.

Speaking of little things, the details in the treats I want to share with you today are what make them so special.

These are Blue Buffalo’s Santa Snacks, AKA “Kringle’s Cookies,” and they’re our December treat from our friends at Chewy.com. I think we’ve tried more treats than your average dog and we’ve never had them in the shape of trees, stars, and gingerbread men!

“The holiday biscuits YULE love sharing.” I mean, come on. Yes.

Santa Snacks are made, like all Blue Buffalo treats, without chicken or poultry by-product and are free of corn, wheat, and soy. This particular variety is baked with oatmeal and cinnamon, so it may as well be a bowl of human oatmeal.

Other great ingredients in Santa Snacks are pumpkin, flaxseed, carrots, and rosemary oil.

I love Blue Buffalo treats of the crunchy variety like Santa Snacks because they are crunchy without being so crunchy that it sounds like your dog is breaking teeth when he or she eats them. These make a crumbly mess but in the best way possible!

Teton will be enjoying his Santa Snacks for the rest of this month and into January since the bag is loaded with treats.

Zippy Paws Interactive Dog Toy

Hi. It’s me, Henley Pretzel. Your favorite chihuazer.

You might not know, but stuffed dog toys are MY JAM. Even when my parents got me from the rescue, they were told that I like stuffed animals the best. I could care less about a tennis ball, but give me a stuffed raccoon and I am yours forever.

My mom made a recent trip to Mud Bay, our local pet store, to purchase me some freeze dried chicken. Chicken is also my jam. My mom buys this chicken. In any event, while she was buying the chicken, she also made the best impulse purchase ever and hooked me up with Zippy Paws Burrow Squeaky Hide and Seek Plush Dog Toy, Elephant Cave version. You can find it on Chewy.com here!

The elephant cave is a small, fuzzy, and plush little dome-shaped toy with two holes in it. Inside the holes are three small stuffed elephants. Your parent shoves the stuffed elephants in the holes and then you have to try to get them out.

My mom made me dinner and then set to work taking the tags off the elephant cave, so I could play with it after dinner. I was so excited to play with it, though, that I sat and ignored my dinner until she prepared the elephant cave for me.

You guys. The elephant cave is THE BEST. I grabbed it right away and threw it across the room, chased it down, and shook it. Then my mom showed me the elephants inside and I grabbed those and played with them, too. She showed me how to get the elephants out of the cave and I can do it if she starts to pull the elephant out of the hole, but I’m still working on doing it all by myself. Also, if you shake the elephant cave REALLY hard, sometimes the elephants fly out. I had so much fun with the elephant cave that I brought it to bed with me that night.

The elephants are pretty small and seem slightly less durable than the cave itself. I might chew some of the elephant ears and trunk, but I see that you can buy replacement elephants online, so no worries there. I could also put some of my other toys in there if I run out of elephants.

Turns out Zippy Paws makes a TON of these kinds of toys, including a stuffed block of cheese with mice inside! My mom ordered that one for me, too. If your dog loves stuffed toys and could benefit from the challenge of a puzzle, Zippy Paws might be for you.

BTW, Zippy Paws and Mud Bay have no idea who we are. My mom spent her own hard-earned money on this dog toy. AND IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT.
