The Dog Mom Project

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day. (Hi, Mom!)

I don’t have human children, but I’m a proud dog mom. I have lots of girlfriends with kids and lots more girlfriends with dogs. While I absolutely recognize that it’s different to have human children, the bond that my dog mom friends share with their dogs is pretty incredible. So, I want to celebrate that.

Today’s post is the first ever Dog Mom Project post. I’ll be the first to answer my eight dog mom questions. Check back soon to meet the next lucky lady and her pup.

THE DOG MOM PROJECT

Introduce yourself! Share a selfie with you and your dog.

♥ I’m Shannon (duh). I’m 30 years old, married, and a Business Analyst. I love weightlifting, hiking, horror movies, cereal, and dogs (duh).

Ok, tell us about your dog. What’s his/her name? Age? Breed?

♥ My dog’s name is Teton. He’s 7 years young and is an American Eskimo Dog and Keeshond mix.

What is your favorite thing about your dog?

♥ There are too many to choose from, but I think my most favorite thing about Teton is that he is a sensitive soul. Also, he kisses on command.

When do you and your dog have the most fun together?

♥ If Teton could talk, he’d say that we have the most fun when we go hiking. I really love our morning moments when he sits at the top of the stairs and I snuggle him before starting my day.

Does your dog have any quirky habits? Tell us about them.

♥ Teton watches TV. If there is any kind of animal on the screen (real, mythical, or extinct), he barks and moves in the direction they move.

Finish this sentence. If my dog had a song stuck in his/her head, it would be…

♥ …Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. He’s a little emo.

At what point did you realize you weren’t just someone who has a dog, but a dog mom?

♥ When he rang his bells to go potty outside for the first time. It was such a proud moment that I’d never felt before. I thought, ah, now I get it.

What’s one thing you want someone without a dog to know about being a dog mom?

♥ Even though I don’t have children, the love I feel for Teton is some of the strongest love I’ve ever felt. I’d do anything for him. I want those who don’t have dogs to understand that those of us with dogs have a different set of priorities that involve caring for our fur kids. It’s not always as easy as “leave the dog at home,” or “have someone come let him/her out.”

Now, share a favorite picture of your dog with us.

♥ Again, too many to choose from! But here’s one that always makes me laugh.

Can’t wait to hear what other dog moms out there have to say!

Happy tails…

  1. So true! Even those who have human children feel the same intense love for their fur babies! So much so that while in Leavenworth just a few days ago at a pet store, something reminded me of my sweet Ninnie, who passed away four years ago, and I found myself in tears because my heart ached from missing her. They are always with you! Thanks for this, Shannon! 💞
